success formula written on whiteboardSuccess is too often treated as this unattainable and forbidden concept, even for smart, hardworking people. They settle with what they have because of their own limiting beliefs. Whether it’s because they don’t believe they can, they should or that they even deserve to be successful.

You hold yourself back from success with your own limiting beliefs.

Success is a mindset.

Our body will do the necessary actions to get what we believe we need to have. It all starts with your belief. Your belief will affect the actions you take and create your results.

Let me tell you a story…

A mother was cooking a ham for dinner one night with her daughter sitting nearby at the table. Her daughter is confused as she watches her mother cut off the ends of the ham before putting it in the oven and asks why she does it.

Her mom replies, “Well, that’s just what you do, sweetie!”

“But why?”

The funny thing was, her mother wasn’t too sure herself!

“Let me get your grandmother on the phone,” says the mother as she picks up the phone to call the young girl’s grandmother and says, “Mom, little Sara here wants to know why we cut the ends off the ham.”

“Well, that’s just what you’re supposed to do, sweetie!”

“But why?” Sara asks once again.

“Well, I don’t know. Nobody eats the ends off the ham!”

“Ya…but why?”

Her grandmother was stumped and decided to get her mother on the phone, the little girl’s great-grandmother.

“Mom, why do you cut the ends of the ham?”

“What do you mean? That’s the only way we could get it to fit in the pot!

Don’t Let Beliefs Limit You

It’s amazing how beliefs can get handed down generation to generation and they are blindly accepted to determine what’s real and what’s not.

When I worked in the government for four months, I was sitting there watching everybody work and it felt like their vision of life was just gone. Don’t get me wrong, I mean absolutely no offense to anyone working in government and hold the utmost respect but I personally had a problem with it.

The vision is to go to work every single day, go to school, get an education and that education will help you get a good job. That’s what you do.

You go to university and you get that job and that job takes care of you for the rest of your life. Right?

Wrong.

One generation ago, that was an unshakeable belief. It may have been true then but is it true today?

Absolutely not.

Sometimes we have trouble letting go of the “fact” that the only way to be successful is to go to school, get an education, get a job and work your way up.

For what? A pension?

We believe that is a typical success story for where we’re at today in society but it’s not accurate. A popular article on LinkedIn made waves a couple weeks ago for telling the Class of 2013 that their degrees mean nothing. Or how about an article from Forbes that promises graduates a staggering $10 an hour for that degree?

90% of success is mindset. If you don’t believe there is a different way, then there won’t be one.

Are you ready to break free and let go of those limiting beliefs to find your own destiny, change your actions and, in turn, change your results?

Let your success begin with your attitude. The rest will follow.
